At last fall’s Succulent Extravaganza, I had fun showing creative designs by members of the Succulent Fanatics, a Facebook group founded by San Jose master gardener Laura Balaoro. My presentation and ensuing YouTube video went over so well, I’m doing something similar at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show on March 19. Designers whose ideas, design tips and techniques I’ll share include…
Baylor Chapman of Lila B designs, San Francisco. I’ll show one of her repurposed shutters planted with succulents and explain how she makes these intriguing vertical gardens. Baylor authored The Plant Recipe Book and is presenting at the show as well.
Candy Suter of Roseville, near Sacramento—a garden columnist for the Bee—writes the popular blog, Sweetstuff’s Sassy Succulents. Her design aesthetic illustrates her delightful sense of whimsy.
Noreen Fenton of Succulent Surroundings in Santa Rosa creates floral-style succulent compositions in lovely vintage containers from at antique stores and estate sales.
Ken Shelf of Succulence, a garden boutique in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, repurposes bicycle wheels and other items as succulent containers. I’ll show one of his planted bicycle wheels. (!)
Gary Bartl of San Rafael is featured in my book, Succulent Container Gardens. I made a YouTube video of his Succulent Extravaganza presentation, in which he shows the tools he uses to create his rocky miniature “Sierrascapes.” The pot he’s holding is by Mark Muradian, a potter who will have a booth at the show.
And I’ll show and explain how Urban FarmGirls, a San Francisco design shop that does lovely things with succulents, creates wreaths. Please come and join the fun—and be sure to say hello!
I’m giving a different presentation in the main auditorium the next day. Here’s more info about both presentations from the show’s website:
