An Early Taste of Spring: Snapdragons

boxes-of-snapdragons-ready-for-planting-revisedI thought the photos of these boxes of fresh snapdragons in the midst of the streets of Tel Aviv might cheer up all of you who are suffering through an extremely frigid and snowy winter.

close-up-of-strawberry-colored-snapdragons-ta-21709-revisedEven with all of the magnificent foliage and flowers blooming this time of year in Israel, my breath was taken away when I came upon these snap-dragons dressed up in their pastel and bright colored blooms for all to see.

orangered-and-yellow-snapdragons-revisedWhen I got a close up view of these luscious flowers, they reminded me of freshly picked organic vegetables. I’m sure that they had just been delivered from local growers.

For me, a plethora of beautiful blooming plants is as delicious and sensual as any other experience I’ve yet to encounter in my lifetime. How about you?

I couldn’t agree more, Fran. I’d have a very hard time resisting these glorious snaps. Thanks for sharing their beauty on this snowy, blowy, frigid Monday in upstate NY.
I can’t wait to walk into a nursery full of blooming plants and inhale the aroma of earth and flowers.

I just want to jump on the flower bench and roll in the colour – thanks for sharing.

I love snapdragons and have grown them for years and in the last few years I have grown them from seed Thanks for sharing

Henrietta-
My pleasure. I’m impressed that you’ve grown them by seed. I’ve always taken the easy way out and bought them in 6 packs. They are one of my favorite flowers in a cut garden! Fran

thanks for the photos. I love snapdragons, but find it hard to capture their beauty with a camera. I have gone both ways… from seed and from a nursery. I got seed to plant… maybe today.

Wayne-
I also love snapdragons and think of them as one of the harbingers of spring. Loved the photo of the blooming aloe on your blog. You should put up a link for it on Debra’s post on Aloes that should still be on the front page of GGW. Fran
